Overview

Situated at the bustling junction of General Hospital Road in Alappuzha, Kerala, HOTEL BROTHERS stands as a beacon of authentic Kerala cuisine since 1973. This venerable establishment offers more than just a meal; it promises an immersive experience deeply rooted in Kerala’s culinary traditions. Known primarily for its robust flavors and traditional dishes, the restaurant excels in delivering staples like Chicken Biriyani, Beef Fry, and the ever-popular Appam paired with Neymeen Fish Masala. These highlights echo the region's coastal heritage, emphasizing fresh seafood and hearty spices.

The venue caters to diners seeking genuine Kerala fare, from locals to curious travelers exploring Alappuzha’s rich food culture. The ambiance, marked by photographs of Malayalam cinema legends, offers a nostalgic charm that complements the rustic and no-frills dining environment. It’s a space where simplicity meets heritage—a casual setting that does not aspire to fine-dining polish but instead focuses on honest, satisfying food that nourishes body and soul.

Patrons consistently applaud the quality and authenticity of the Kerala meals, particularly the fish curry meals, traditional puttu variants, and the variety of curries like Mutta Curry and Chicken Curry. The inclusion of vegetable dishes such as Veg Kurma and Chana Masala adds balance, while specialty items like Duck Roast and Kozhuva Fry bring regional diversity to the plate. The flavors are grounded in bold spices and freshly prepared ingredients, delivering a home-like taste that resonates deeply with Kerala’s culinary heritage.

Service reflects the venue’s casual and approachable nature. While it may lack the formality of upscale restaurants, the staff’s focus remains on efficient delivery rather than polished interaction. This informal atmosphere fits the target audience, those who value substance over style, and seek an authentic, hearty meal in a communal setting.

Parking can be a consideration during peak hours, a note for those planning visits during busy dining times. Nonetheless, HOTEL BROTHERS remains a trusted destination for traditional Kerala dining experiences, especially recommended for families, local food enthusiasts, and travelers eager to sample genuine coastal flavors in a historic and welcoming environment.

A timeless classic in Alappuzha! Hotel Brothers, serving since 1973, is a must-visit for authentic Kerala meals. I had the fish curry meals — absolutely delicious and full of flavor. It's no surprise this place is well-known and loved by travelers and locals alike. Simple, satisfying, and true to its roots.

Visited this place after hearing about it a lot. We tried the regular fish meals with additional stuff like karimeen fry, podimeen fry and chicken roast. The meals were just amazing. The avial and cabbage thoran were prepared perfectly like at home. Fish curry was also good with generous pieces of fish thrown in. Karimeen fry was prepared fresh as per order though it was more oily than we expected. Parking will be an issue during peak hours. About the service - it's just very informal and casual. They don't even give a menu. Don't expect any professional behaviour from staff like high end restaurants. But they get the job done. They are not polite talking but don't mistake it for rudeness.

We had porotta, duck roast, puttu and fish curry during our dinner visit. All the servings tasted good. I could also understand that this place holds a significant part in 90's malayalam cinema. Recommended visit if you are around Alappuzha in search of dining space. Parking also available.

We recently visited this historic hotel, which was evident from the photos of celebrities on the walls - it added to the charm! The Kerala meal was perfect, with all the traditional curries tasting just right. The 4 thorans and sambar, along with the delicious meen curry, were highlights. We also ordered 2 fries - neeymeen and kilimeen - which were tasty. However, the total bill of ₹740 (including tax) felt a bit steep. Despite that, the food was 'on point' and worth considering for a special occasion."

We enjoyed a tasty breakfast at Hotel Brothers their mutton curry, chicken curry, and fish curry were all delicious and packed with authentic flavours. The parotta and idiyappam were fresh and paired perfectly with the gravies. Loved the soft puttu topped with coconut too. A great stop for traditional Kerala food!

Food is heavenly here especially the aroma of the spiced or flavored ones. - Had a well cooked Chicken Biriyani as chicken was yummy and fried well with fried and caramelized onions. The salad and pickle was nice too. - Orange Juice was refreshing too. - Depends on situation, parking and services can be different yet they handle it effectively.
